'La Gorme' was recorded in 1976. The album was a combination of something old...something new. The old songs were classic spanish standards... 'Quiereme Mucho', 'Sabras Que Te Quiero', and 'Esta Tarde Vi Llover' written by the world famous mexican composer 'Armando Manzanero' ...enhanced by 'Nelson Riddle's' beautiful orchestration. The new songs were spanish hits of the day from Spain, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil. The following year, 'Don Costa' and I were preparing a new album. Don played a few songs for me by 'Danny Rivera', an enormously popular singer in Puerto Rico. I was so impressed with his voice that we invited him to join us on the new album. Danny contributed some great songs written by his talented friends...musicians and composers...from Puerto Rico. The song 'Para Decir Adios', became and still remains a favorite. 'Hay Muy Pocos' written by 'Memo De Anda' and arranged by the incomparable 'Don Costa' is one of the most remarkable songs I have ever recorded...in any language. The last line in the song really says it all..."1 count my friends...on the fingers of just one hand...but if you are among them...you are not just my friend...you are my brother." The title song, 'Muy Amigos', was written by 'Don Costa' and 'Memo De Anda'. When we finished the album we were more than just friends...we were family. Eydie Gorme |
