Oscar Levant loved to come to our record dates. It was a great compliment... but actually we were quite intimidated by his presence. He was a genius.

Oscar felt that we were unparalleled in our approach to the contemporary
music of the day and in our interpretation of the great modern composers. He even wrote about us in his book. We received the same kudos from Berlin, Mercer, Arlen, Styne, Cahn, Lerner and Loewe, Rogers and Hammerstein, Ira Gershwin and other idols. What a thrill to have known them.

Don Costa, Marion Evans, Nelson Riddle, Billy Byers and Billy May were among our favorite composer/arrangers because they were almost always in tune with our feelings about the music we selected and our manner of delivery... not only as soloists... but also as partners in rhyme.

Contemporary is the key word here. As we listen to the work we accomplished in this album as soloists and as duet artists, there is no way we would do it any differently today. Maybe Oscar was right after all. We were young, we were in love, the music was challenging, beautiful and fun... and we were simply wonderful.
