A NOTE FROM EYDIE

In the spring of 1981 Don Costa and I finished the first record date for this album. The orchestra was packing up and leaving the studio and the engineer asked if we wanted to do anything else. Don took out his acoustic guitar which he played beautifully...and signaled the engineer to roll tape. I started to sing.."God Bless The Child" and then "Round Midnight". It was a real moment for us. Just voice and guitar and a big empty studio. We heard the playback and Don made a few notes and said..."Let me take this home and listen to it."

A couple weeks later we were back in the studio and as a surprise for me, Don had written an orchestration to supplement what he and I had already taped before on "God Bless The Child" and "Round Midnight"...I was thrilled.

But after the date, Don told me that he had to go on the road with Frank Sinatra and would it be okay if he got Nelson Riddle to finish writing the album for me..I said..."have a nice trip!"

It was a privilege working with Nelson Riddle, Jack Elliot, Peter Matz, and Michele Legrand. Their wonderful arrangements completed the original LP and the bonus tracks in this collection. This CD is lovingly dedicated to my dear friend and musical genius...'Don Costa.'

Sincerely,
