A NOTE FROM STEVE...

Every one of these great songs were nominated for an academy award... and lost. It's hard to believe... but true. In many cases the songs in this collection of losers have outlasted the songs that actually walked away with the golden statue. When Billy May and I first got together to prepare this album, we were going to record... "The Academy Award Winners." But, while reviewing all the songs that won, we noticed so many great songs that did not get "The Oscar." I said to Billy, jokingly: "Maybe we should record the losers"... we both stared at each other and after a long pause, Billy said: "Good idea... there's a lot of great songs to choose from." So we selected a dozen of our favorites.

My thanks to Billy May for his valuable contribution and his great arrangements.

Since the original release of "Academy Award Losers" I have added six more losers... but to me... they are all winners.

My thanks to my friends and arrangers of the six bonus tracks... Don Costa, Nelson Riddle, Nick Perito, Marion Evans and Patrick Williams.
