Now Playing... There'll Be Some Changes Made

A Note From Eydie...

Steve already had several hit records and was known to television viewers all over the country. He finished this album just before leaving for the army where he served with distinction for two years.

Natt Hale was a respected writer, biographer and music critic. He was a big fan and wrote the following liner notes which I thought would be appropriate because it touches on the life and times of where Steve was when he recorded this beautiful album...a sort of mini bio of the era:

By Natt Hale...

... Here is a delightful and ingratiating invitation from one of the nation's top vocal entertainers to hear him in the type of son in which he excels. This is the mood, the tempo- and the star...
The rise of Steve Lawrence to stardom was a foregone certainty, one might say, judging from the aspirations and the forthright determination which characterized his every action as a boy. From the time he sang in his dad's choir, through his "break" with traditional singing to the pop idiom and the transition to singing in every facet of wide repertoire, Steve has epitomized the "home-town boy who made good." In case, it is hardly necessary to say, "I told you so."

Currently serving in the armed forces, Lawrence found his professional activities almost completely limited to an occasional TV guest appearance, where he took pride in wearing his army uniform. Aside from seeing him on television, this album was the only opportunity to hear the “singer’s singer” at his romantic best.

This album includes a wonderful collection from the great American songbook skillfully blended and calculated to make you “Swing Softly with Steve Lawrence.” Won’t you accept the invitation?
