A NOTE FROM EYDIE I recorded Tonight Ill Say A Prayer in November of 1969, or as we refer to it at our house... The Winter of My Discontent. The rock groups had already made their mark and changed the sound of pop music forever... It was very difficult finding the type of music to which I related and the record company was pressing us to get an album out asap! In a musical mad dash, Don Costa and I released a single of Tonight Ill Say A Prayer which soared into the top 40 immediately. My prayers were answered! To select the songs for the album, Don and I reached out to all the talented writers we knew...Jimmy Webb, Charles Aznavour, Paul Williams and Roger Nichols, Burt Bachrach and Hal David. In many instances my rendition may not have been the original hit version, but I was pleased with my performance, and I liked the songs. Nick Perito, the brilliant musician and arranger, who wrote the chart for Knowing When to Leave...conducted the orchestra...while Don Costa was in the booth, producing and arranging all the rest. When our contract was up, we were ready to move on and so was RCA. Waiting in the wings was Mike Curb, a friend, a fan and the president of MGM Records and we signed on. It Was A Good Time was from the movie Ryans Daughter...it became an instant turntable hit! To find the songs for this album...once again we reached out to the young talented writers...James Taylor, David Gates, Carol King and Gerry Goffin, Paul Williams and Roger Nichols, Burt Bachrach and Hal David and Tony Bruno, who wrote Sal and Sally, a song I just could not resist...I love it! I hope you enjoy the 21 sides on this new cd. Sincerely, |
